    Stainless Steel Welded Wire Mesh

Stainless Steel Welded Wire Mesh is produced by arranging longitudinal and transverse stainless steel wires at controlled spacing and resistance-welding each intersection. The welded structure provides stable openings, good rigidity and dimensional stability for guards, enclosures, partitions, screens and fabricated mesh panels.

Our factory supplies stainless steel welded wire mesh in panels, sheets, rolls and custom-cut forms. 304, 304L, 316 and 316L are commonly available, with wire diameter, clear opening, overall dimensions and edge condition selected according to the final application.

For most buyers, the key selection parameters are wire diameter, clear opening, welded-joint quality, panel or roll size and edge type. Material grade is then selected according to the corrosion environment and fabrication requirements.

Wire Diameter, Clear Opening and Welded Joint

Stainless steel welded wire mesh showing wire diameter clear opening and welded intersection

    Wire Diameter

Larger wire diameter generally increases mesh rigidity, weight and resistance to deformation.

    Clear Opening

The clear opening is the free space between adjacent wires and determines object retention, visibility and passage size.

    Welded Joint

Each wire intersection is resistance welded to create a stable grid that maintains opening geometry during normal handling and fabrication.

How to Specify Welded Wire Mesh Opening

A welded wire mesh enquiry should clearly distinguish clear opening from wire pitch. These dimensions are related but are not the same.

    Parameter Definition Example
Wire Diameter Diameter of the stainless steel wire 2.0 mm
Clear Opening Free distance between adjacent wire surfaces 25 mm
Pitch Centre-to-centre spacing between adjacent wires 27 mm

    For equal wire diameters:

Pitch = Clear Opening + Wire Diameter

When a drawing is supplied, our factory can manufacture according to the specified clear opening or centre-to-centre pitch.

    Typical Welded Mesh Panel Configurations

Rigid panels are commonly selected for guards, partitions, enclosures and fabricated components. Heavier wire generally provides greater rigidity but increases panel weight.

Clear Opening Metric Size Typical Wire Dia. Typical Form Typical Use
    1/2″ × 1/2″ 12.7 × 12.7 mm 1.0–2.0 mm Sheet / Panel Small-opening guards and screens
    1″ × 1″ 25.4 × 25.4 mm 1.5–2.5 mm Panel General guards and partitions
    1-1/2″ × 1-1/2″ 38.1 × 38.1 mm 2.0–5.0 mm Rigid Panel Industrial partitions and enclosures
    2″ × 2″ 50.8 × 50.8 mm 2.0–6.0 mm Rigid Panel Machine guards and barriers
    3″ × 3″ 76.2 × 76.2 mm 3.0–7.0 mm Heavy Panel Large protection panels
    4″ × 4″ 101.6 × 101.6 mm 3.0–8.0 mm Heavy Panel Barriers and large-area enclosures

Typical combinations are shown for selection reference. Custom wire diameter and opening combinations can be reviewed according to required dimensions and quantity.

Welded Joint Quality & Grid Stability

The welded intersection is one of the most important quality points of stainless steel welded wire mesh. Consistent welds help the mesh maintain opening dimensions during handling, cutting and further fabrication.

    •  Weld Consistency: intersections should remain consistently joined.
    •  Opening Uniformity: spacing should remain stable across the panel.
    •  Grid Alignment: longitudinal and transverse wires should remain properly aligned.
    •  Cutting Stability: the mesh should retain its welded structure during normal fabrication.
    •  Surface Condition: visible burn marks, contamination and abnormal deformation are inspected.

    Welded Wire Mesh Edge Options

Edge condition affects handling, installation and later fabrication. Our factory can review different edge arrangements according to the final component or drawing.

    Flush Cut Edge

Wire ends are cut close to the perimeter wire for safer handling and easier framing.

Overhanging wire edge on stainless steel welded mesh
    Overhanging Wire

A controlled wire projection can be retained for later welding, fixing or fabrication.

Framed stainless steel welded wire mesh panel
    Framed Edge

Border wire or fabricated frame can be added for guards, partitions and finished assemblies.

Welded Mesh Panels vs Welded Mesh Rolls

Stacked stainless steel welded wire mesh panels

    Welded Mesh Panels

    •  Higher rigidity and flatness.
    •  Suitable for guards, partitions and equipment panels.
    •  Suitable for heavier wire diameters.
    •  Convenient for framing, bending and fabrication.
Stainless steel welded wire mesh supplied in roll form

    Welded Mesh Rolls

    •  Suitable for continuous large-area coverage.
    •  Commonly used with lighter wire diameters.
    •  Convenient for enclosure and general protection.
    •  Roll availability depends on mesh rigidity.

    Stainless Steel Grade Selection

After the mesh geometry has been confirmed, the stainless steel grade should be selected according to corrosion environment, service conditions and subsequent fabrication.

    Grade Main Characteristic Typical Use
304 Good general corrosion resistance and economical cost General industrial guards, partitions and enclosures
304L Lower carbon content Fabricated components requiring additional welding
316 Improved resistance to chloride-containing environments Wet, coastal, chemical and corrosive environments
316L Low-carbon molybdenum-bearing stainless steel Corrosive service and welded fabricated assemblies

Custom Welded Mesh Panels & Fabrication

Stainless steel welded mesh is often supplied as more than a standard rectangular panel. Our factory can review further processing according to the customer’s drawing and final assembly requirements.

    FAQ

What is the difference between welded wire mesh and woven wire mesh?

Welded wire mesh uses resistance-welded intersections to create a rigid and dimensionally stable grid. Woven wire mesh uses interlaced wires and is generally more flexible. Welded mesh is therefore commonly preferred for guards, panels, partitions and fabricated components.

    What does clear opening mean?

Clear opening is the free distance between adjacent wires. It is different from pitch, which is measured from the centre of one wire to the centre of the next.

Can welded mesh be supplied with rectangular openings?

Yes. Both square and rectangular welded mesh can be produced. For rectangular openings, specify both opening dimensions and indicate the required orientation if it affects installation.

Should I choose a welded mesh panel or roll?

Panels are normally preferred where rigidity, flatness and further fabrication are important. Rolls are suitable for lighter mesh and continuous coverage. Available roll form depends on wire diameter and mesh rigidity.

Can our factory produce custom welded mesh panels?

Yes. Wire diameter, opening size, panel dimensions, edge condition and further cutting, bending or framing can be reviewed according to the drawing and required quantity.

Which material should I choose, 304 or 316L?

304 is widely used for general industrial environments. 316 and 316L are usually selected when better resistance to chloride-containing, coastal, wet or chemically aggressive environments is required.
