    Applications, Corrosion Performance and Fabrication

    Primary Applications

    • Offshore platforms and subsea equipment
    • Marine structures and seawater handling equipment
    • Pump, valve and pressure equipment components
    • Heat exchanger plates and process equipment
    • Chemical and petrochemical equipment
    • Desalination and chloride-containing process systems

    Corrosion Performance

S32760 plate is used where high localized corrosion resistance is required in chloride-containing environments. The addition of chromium, molybdenum, nitrogen, tungsten and copper provides strong resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared with standard duplex grades.

    Fabrication

S32760 can be cut, formed and machined with suitable tooling and process control. Due to its high strength and duplex structure, forming loads may be higher than austenitic stainless steel, and welding procedures should control heat input and interpass temperature.

    Welding

Welding can be performed with qualified procedures and compatible filler metals. The finished weld zone should maintain suitable ferrite-austenite balance and corrosion resistance. Post-weld cleaning, pickling or passivation may be required depending on service conditions.

    Heat Treatment

S32760 is normally supplied in solution-annealed condition. It is not selected for precipitation hardening. Improper thermal exposure may cause harmful intermetallic phase precipitation, so heat treatment and hot fabrication should follow the applicable specification and procedure.

Application Limitation: S32760 is highly corrosion resistant, but it is not suitable for every acid, chloride or high-temperature condition. Service evaluation should consider concentration, temperature, crevice design, weld condition, cleaning practice and contamination risk.
