Four Kinds of Stainless Steel Wire Surface Introduction :

Steel wire usually refers to a product made of hot-rolled wire rod as raw material and processed through a series of processes such as heat treatment, pickling, and drawing. Its industrial uses are widely involved in springs, screws, bolts, wire mesh, kitchenware and miscellaneous items, etc.

 

I. Production process of stainless steel wire:

•The steel wire must undergo heat treatment during the drawing process, the purpose is to increase the plasticity and toughness of the steel wire, achieve a certain strength, and eliminate the inhomogeneous state of hardening and composition.
•Pickling is the key to steel wire production. The purpose of pickling is to remove the residual oxide scale on the surface of the wire. Because of the existence of oxide scale, it will not only bring difficulties to drawing, but also have great harm to product performance and surface galvanizing. Pickling is an effective way to completely remove oxide scale.
•Coating treatment is a process of dipping lubricant on the surface of steel wire (after pickling), and it is one of the important methods of steel wire lubrication (belonging to pre-coating lubrication before drawing). Stainless steel wire is commonly coated with three types of salt-lime, oxalate and chlorine (fluorine) resins.

II. Different Surface Treatment Processes:

1.Bright Surface:

a. Surface treatment process: use white wire rod, and use oil to draw bright wire on the machine; If black wire rod is used for drawing, acid pickling shall be carried out to remove the oxide skin before drawing on the machine.

b. Product use: widely used in construction, precision instruments, hardware tools, handicrafts, brushes, springs, fishing gear, nets, medical equipment, steel needles, cleaning balls, hangers, underwear holders, etc.

c. Wire diameter range: any diameter of steel wire on the bright side is acceptable.

2. Cloudy/Dull Surface:

a.  Surface treatment process: use the white wire rod and the same lubricant as lime powder to draw together.

b.  Product use: commonly used in the manufacture of nuts, screws, washers, brackets, bolts and other products.

c.  Wire diameter range : normal 0.2-5.0mm.

3. Oxalic Acid Wire Process:

a. Surface treatment process: first drawing, and then placing the material in the oxalate treatment solution. After standing at a specific time and temperature, it is taken out, washed with water, and dried to obtain a black and green oxalate film.

b. The oxalic acid coating of stainless steel wire has a good lubricating effect. It avoids the direct contact between stainless steel and the mold during cold heading fasteners or metal processing, resulting in increased friction and damage to the mold, thereby protecting the mold. From the effect of cold forging, the extrusion force is reduced, the film release is smooth, and there is no mucous membrane phenomenon, which can well meet the production needs. It is suitable for the production of step screws and rivets with large deformation.

Tips: 

• Oxalic acid is an acidic chemical substance, which is easy to dissolve when exposed to water or moisture. It is not suitable for long-term transportation, because once there is water vapor during transportation, it will oxidize and cause rust on the surface; it causes customers to think that there is a problem with the surface of our products. . (The wetted surface is shown in the picture on the right)
• Solution: Sealed packing in nylon plastic bag and put in wooden box.

4. Pickled Surface Wire Process:

a. Surface treatment process: firstly draw, and then put the steel wire into the sulfuric acid pool to pickle to form acid white surface.

b. Wire diameter range : Steel wires with a diameter of more than 1.0mm
